About this model

A small body with vintage charm and balanced tonality Gibson was a pioneer in the development of small-body guitars at the beginning of the 1900s with its L-Series small-body acoustics. These smaller guitars deliver a tonality best described in Gibson’s 1934 catalog as a sound of “perfect balance.” The L-00 Original carries that heritage forward as part of the Gibson Original Collection, combining vintage-inspired appointments with the comfort, balance, and rich, full sound that have long defined Gibson small-body acoustics. It now comes equipped with the Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system for natural amplified sound that preserves the guitar’s character and every nuance of your playing. The L-00 Original features a compact small-body design with a Sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides. Scalloped X-bracing supports the top, with classic single-ply binding outlining the top and back. The gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish reinforces the model’s traditional appearance, and subtle antiquing on the binding reinforces its traditional presentation. The mahogany neck has a fast, comfortable SlimTaper™ profile and is joined to the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint. It is fitted with a rosewood fretboard with a 12-inch radius, 19 standard frets, and mother-of-pearl dot inlays. A bone nut and Golden Age nickel tuners complete the headstock, along with the classic white-script Gibson logo. The closed-slot rectangle bridge is crafted from rosewood and fitted with a bone saddle and TUSQ® bridge pins. A traditional L-00 pickguard completes the understated look. Together, the bone nut and saddle, Golden Age tuners, antiqued binding, and script logo give the L-00 Original the vintage-oriented presentation that sets it apart within the L-00 family. Inside, the L-00 Original is now equipped with the all-new Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system. This active system uses two lightweight sensors mounted on the internal bridge plate. The sensors are matched with optimized individual preamps to deliver full-bodied, amplified acoustic tone that lets the guitar’s character and personality come through when amplified, with no impact on the unamplified tone. The Baggs HiFi DNA system offers comparable gain-before-feedback to an under-saddle pickup. The system also includes soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls that are quick and easy to access while playing, and all but invisible to your audience.
